Joseph von Xylander
Joseph Carl August Anton Aloys Ritter and Edler von Xylander (born February 4, 1794 in Munich ; † November 2, 1854 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a Bavarian major general , authorized representative of the German Federal Military Commission and a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly . He was also a military writer , historian and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of War Studies .
Life
origin
Joseph came from the noble family von Xylander in the Electoral Palatinate . He was the son of the Bavarian regimental quartermaster and hospital inspector Alois Edler and Ritter von Xylander and his wife Antonia, née Freiin von Pflumper. On July 4, 1792, in the Electoral Palatinate-Bavarian Imperial Vicariate , the father was raised to the rank of imperial nobility and knighthood as a "noble of" and on July 15, 1809 , he was enrolled in the Bavarian aristocratic register of the knightly class.
Military career
After visiting the Munich Cadet Corps , Xylander joined the engineering corps of the Bavarian Army in 1812 as a sub-lieutenant . From 1818 he taught at his cadet institute. He then became a captain in the Bavarian delegation of the German Federal Military Commission in Frankfurt am Main. In 1846 he became the first Bavarian representative on the commission. In December 1848 he was appointed Bavarian representative to the provisional central authority .
From April 13 to May 7, 1849, he was Carl Kleinschrod's successor for a short time as a non-attached MP for Bruck in the Frankfurt National Assembly .
After the end of the National Assembly he was appointed Bavarian Plenipotentiary to the Federal Central Commission and promoted to major general. From 1850 he was the Bavarian envoy to the German Confederation and at the same time envoy of Bavaria in the Grand Duchy of Hesse , the Electorate of Hesse and the Duchy of Nassau .
family
Xylander married Karoline von Tausch (1802–1878) in Munich on August 1, 1822, the daughter of the Bavarian Lieutenant General Georg von Tausch and Friederike Bissinger. The marriage had ten children. Of these, Robert (1830–1905) became Bavarian Lieutenant General, Emil (1835–1911) Bavarian Colonel General and Heinrich (1840–1905) Bavarian Infantry General .
