Gerald Scarfe

Gerald Anthony Scarfe , CBE (born June 1, 1936 in London ) is an English caricaturist , illustrator , draftsman , creator of animated films and set designer . He also created sculptures and designed costumes. He became known worldwide through the design of the cartoon videos , the set design and the cover and booklet design for the Pink Floyd album The Wall and the feature film based on it.

Scarfe is married to the English actress Jane Asher , with whom he has a daughter (* 1974) and two sons (* 1981 and * 1984).

Caricaturist and draftsman

Scarfe has drawn and published cartoons since the 1960s, first in Punch , then for Private Eye , and later for Esquire , Time Magazine and The New Yorker .

From 1966 he was employed by the Daily Mail as a cartoonist. In the same year he began to draw covers for Time magazine , including those of the Beatles , and was also employed by her as a draftsman for reports. In 1967 he began working as a political cartoonist for The Sunday Times , for which he then did one cartoon every week for over 40 years. For this Sunday newspaper he also made pictures of war in Vietnam , Northern Ireland and the Middle East.
