Gergő Nagy ( Hungarian Nagy Gergő ; born October 10, 1989 in Dunaújváros ) is a Hungarian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Ferencvárosi TC from the First League since July 2018 .
Career
Gergő Nagy began his career as a hockey player in the youth team of Alba Volán Székesfehérvár , but also played as a youth player in the men's team of Fehérvári Titánok . As an 18-year-old, the striker went to Salzburg to join the EC Red Bull there for a year . In 2008 he returned to Hungary and played for Alba Volán Székesfehérvár, who are the only Hungarian team to compete in the Austrian ice hockey league . After he was able to assert himself there, he lost his regular place in the first team in the 2011/12 season and moved - after several appearances in the second team, which plays in the Hungarian league - to Miskolci Jegesmedvék JSE , for which he was until the end the 2012/13 season was active.
Nagy moved to North America in October 2013, where he first played with the Quad City Mallards . At the end of the season he was loaned to the AHL club Chicago Wolves and later received a contract there. For the Wolves he played two games in the AHL by the end of the season.
He also started the 2014/15 season with the Wolves, but after six games he was transferred to the ECHL , where he played a total of 61 games with the Kalamazoo Wings , scoring 20 goals and 39 assists. In July 2015 he returned to his home club in Székesfehérvár. However, he stayed there for only one year and then joined the MAC Budapest from the multinational MOL league , with which he became the Hungarian Cup winner in 2017 . He returned to the Quad City Mallards in December 2017.
In 2019 he became champion of the multinational first division with Ferencvárosi TC and was named Best Striker for his outstanding offensive performance.
International
For Hungary Nagy took part in the U18 World Championships in 2005 and 2007 in Division II and 2006 in Division I as well as the U20 title fights in 2007 in Division II and in 2008 and 2009 in Division I.
When the Hungarian team up in 2009 for the first time in 70 years was able to qualify for a World Cup A, Nagy made his debut and was used in three games. But he could not prevent the relegation of his team. At the World Championships of Division I in 2010 , 2013 and 2018 he was also in the Hungarian squad and played all five games. At the 2016 World Cup , he played for the Magyars again in the top division and scored the 1-0 opening goal in a 5-2 win over Belarus , the first Hungarian victory at a world championship of the highest level since February 3, 1939 (then 8: 1 against Belgium ). He also represented his colors in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
