Gilmary M. Hostage
Gilmary Michael “Mike” Hostage III. Born April 29, 1955 in Bethesda , Maryland, is a former general in the United States Air Force (USAF). From September 13, 2011 to November 4, 2014 he was in command of Air Combat Command (ACC), a major command of the US Air Force based at Langley Air Force Base , Virginia .
Before that, from August 2009 he commanded the United States Air Forces Central (USAFCENT), which was subordinate to the US Central Command (USCENTCOM ).
Education and career
Hostage grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, where he attended a Jesuit private school and was a member of a model flying club . He joined the Air Force in 1978 after graduating from Duke University in Durham , North Carolina , with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering .
As a pilot came Hostage during his career on over 4000 hours of flight time on the patterns T-38 , F-15A / B / C / D , F-16A / B / C / D / CJ , F-22 , E-3B / C AWACS , T-6A and MC-12W .
Service in the rank of general
From July 2001 to August 2002, Hostage commanded the 363rd Air Expeditionary Wing at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia and was promoted to Brigadier General on January 1, 2002 in this capacity . Back in the United States , he served a year and a half in command of the 552nd Air Control Wing at Tinker Air Force Base , Oklahoma , and served as Director of Plans and Programs at the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) headquarters on Randolph Air Force Base , Texas . From October 2004 he served as Director of Intelligence and Air, Space and Information Operations (A2 / 3) and from August 2005 in the rank of major general .
Between June 2006 and March 2008 he served as Director of Requirements and Integration (J8) in the US Joint Forces Command , Virginia, then until August 2009 as Deputy Commander of the Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam , Hawaii . before he was transferred to the United States Air Forces Central under promotion to Lieutenant General , where he was responsible for the armed forces of the USAF in the Middle East .
On September 13, 2011, Hostage finally succeeded William M. Fraser as Commander of the Air Combat Command; he was promoted to general on the same day.
On November 4, 2014, Hostage handed over command of the ACC to General Herbert J. Carlisle and retired after 37 years of military service.
