Giovanni Carlo Lapentti (born January 25, 1983 in Guayaquil ) is a former Ecuadorian tennis player .

Private

Giovanni is the younger brother of the former tennis player Nicolás Lapentti . His younger brother Leonardo also played tennis (at a lower level). Giovanni Lapentti married Andrea Gómez in 2011, Miss Venezuela in 2004 and became a father in 2012.

Career

2001 Lapentti won the youth doubles competition at Wimbledon on the side of Frank Dancevic .

Lapentti made his ATP World Tour debut in 2003 at ATP Las Vegas . After qualifying, he won against Paradorn Srichaphan in the first round before losing to David Sánchez 3: 6, 6: 7 in the round of 16 . At the French Open 2003 he suffered an injury in the match against Tommy Robredo when the score was 2-2 sets, so he gave up the match and could not return to the tour until 2004 . In total, he won four Challenger titles in 2003, most of all players that year.

Already in 1998 Lapentti made his debut in the Davis Cup, at the age of 15 years. He won against Björn Munroe from the Bahamas in straight sets. In 2000 he managed to turn a 2-0 set deficit against Arvind Parmar , so that Ecuador won the match 3-2 and rose to the world group for the fourth time. Overall, his record is 19:28 in 26 encounters, of which eleven wins and 17 defeats are individual. Lapentti has now completed the third most games after Andrés Gómez and his brother Nicolás Lapentti .

In his career Lapentti reached the quarterfinals of an ATP tournament twice - in Scottsdale in 2005 and in Indianapolis in the same year .

In February 2010, the Ecuadorian resigned and played his last tournament at the Ecuador Open . He and his brother Nicolás also got a wildcard for doubles.
