The Gmina Bytów [ ˈbɨtuf ] is a town-and-country municipality in the powiat Bytowski in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the city of Bytów ( German Bütow , Kashubian Bëtowò ) with about 17,000 inhabitants.
Geographical location
The municipality is located in a hilly forest and lake landscape, formerly known as the “Blue Ländchen”, in Western Pomerania . Through the city flows the river Bytowa (Bütow) . To the southwest rises the Siemierzycka Góra (Schimmritzberg) , which is the highest elevation in the area at 256 meters. The next larger cities Słupsk (Stolp) and Lębork (Lauenburg i. Pom.) Are each about 50 km northwest and north-northeast.
history
In 1946 the city became the seat of a powiat . The latter was dissolved by the regional reform of 1975 and the municipality came to the Slupsk Voivodeship until 1998 . In 1999 the city became a district town in the Pomeranian Voivodeship with the rebuilding of Powiat Bytowski. On December 1, 1999, the place received the additional official Kashubian name Bëtowò .
