The Gmina Parchowo ( Kashubian Gmina Parchòwò ) is a rural municipality in the powiat Bytowski of the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . Their seat is the village of the same name ( German Parchau ) with about 1200 inhabitants. The municipality with about 3700 inhabitants has been bilingual since 2006 (Polish and Kashubian).
geography
Gmina Parchowo is located between the cities of Gdańsk (Danzig) and Słupsk (Stolp) in a scenic area that is characterized by forests and lakes. The area belongs to the Kashubian Lake District . Lakes in the municipality are Glinno, Stropno, Sumino and Żukówko. The 384 hectare Mausz ( Großer Mausch-See ) is in the immediate vicinity . A 214 hectare peat and forest nature reserve is also nearby. The next larger town is Bytów (Bütow) , 15 kilometers to the west.

history
Germany lost large parts of West Prussia through the Treaty of Versailles , Parchau / Parchowo came to Poland in 1920. The border ran through the area of today's rural community, which means that some places remained German until 1945.

economy
The Struga hydroelectric power station on the Słupia (Stolpe) river is located near Soszyca and has been in operation since 1896.
