The Gmina Opalenica is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Nowotomyski of the Greater Poland Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the city of the same name ( German Opalenitza ) with about 9600 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located in the west of the voivodeship. The border with the Lubusz Voivodeship is 30 kilometers away. The voivodeship capital Poznan is about 30 kilometers to the east, the district town of Nowy Tomyśl (Neutomischel) about eight kilometers to the west. Neighboring communities are the communities of Kuślin and Duszniki in the north, Buk in the east, Granowo and Grodzisk Wielkopolski in the south and Nowy Tomyśl in the west.
The Mogilnica belongs to the flowing waters. A chain of hills in the west of the municipality reaches heights of up to 108 meters.
The community has an area of 147.7 km², 67 percent of which is used for agriculture and 25 percent for forestry.
history
Administrative history
The current municipal area, interrupted by the German occupation in World War II , belonged to the Poznan Voivodeship from 1919 to 1975 with different layouts. - The German minority was expelled after the World War .
The rural community of Opalenica was dissolved in 1954 and repeatedly transformed into various gromadas . From these, the rural community was re-formed on January 1, 1973. From 1975 to 1998 the municipality belonged to the greatly reduced Poznan Voivodeship . The powiat was dissolved during this time. Urban and rural municipality Opalenica were merged in 1990/1991 to form urban and rural municipality. Since 1999 this has belonged to the Greater Poland Voivodeship and to the re-established powiat Nowotomyski.

coat of arms
The coat of arms has been proven since 1616 and was laid down in the municipal statute of December 6, 2002. On a silver plate it shows a green rose shoot with three red flowers behind a golden key.

traffic
The A2 motorway ( Berlin - Warsaw , Europastraße 30 ) runs north of the municipality. The DW307 voivodship road leads to Poznan via the neighboring town of Buk , where there is a connection to the motorway.
The Opalenica station and the Porażyn and Wojnowice Wielkopolskie stops are on the Berlin – Poznan – Warsaw line .
The nearest international airport is Poznań-Ławica .
