Mercy Church

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Gnadenkirche describes two fundamentally different groups of places of worship.

Definitions

  • Protestant churches of grace emerged as an exception (“by grace”) to the principle of Cuius regio, eius religio in individual Catholic-ruled countries, including in Silesia under pressure from Protestant abroad after the “ Executions Recess ” of February 8, 1709 and after payment of larger sums to the Emperor.
  • Furthermore, the proper name of individual Protestant churches can refer to a sovereign gracious foundation or to divine grace .
