history

"Söllheim". Franzisco-Josephinische Landesaufnahme , sheet 31–48 Salzburg , around 1900 (Mooswiesen between Salzkammergut local railway and Salzburg-Tyrolean railway )

The area has belonged to the Gnigl community since the creation of the local communities in 1848/49 . Up until the 19th century, there were only few fertile moss meadows here, with Gniglerfeld and Rettenlackwiese (to the Rettenlack estate in Itzling-Ost). Initially , the only settlement was Neuhaus , a brick factory (at today's Warwitzstrasse ).
In 1875 the Giselabahn (Salzburg-Tiroler-Bahn) was built, and in 1908 the marshalling yard. In 1935 Gnigl and Itzling came to Salzburg, in 1939 Langwied and Sam too.

After the Second World War, some housing developments were built in the southern part. The northern part, largely used as an industrial park, was built from the 1960s onwards. In the course of the development, a number of ponds previously located here that had arisen from brick ponds also disappeared , especially the large Warwitz pond and the Moosweiher north of it . To this day some development areas are still undeveloped.

Transport and infrastructure

The main road traffic axis is the Bachstraße with Warwitzstraße (towards the motorway entrance ), as well as the Anglassingerstraße along the Salzburg-Tiroler Bahn.

In Gnigl Nord is the stop Salzburg Sam the Salzburg S-Bahn , line S3 (30 minutes). The city area can also be reached by trolleybus line  10 (to Sam, stops Siedlerstraße, Gewerbehofstraße ) and bus line  23 (Hauptbahnhof - Sam - Obergnigl, stops Hannackstraße, Warwitzstraße, Sam S-Bahn, Schillinghofstraße ).
