Gottlob Heinrich Oswald Freiherr von Richthofen (born April 19, 1777 in Berlin ; † December 20, 1847 there ) was a Prussian major general and inspector of the 1st Pioneer Inspection.

Life

Gottlob was the son of the Berlin War and Domain Council Friedrich von Richthofen (1741–1777) and his wife Emilie Charlotte, née le Chenevix de Beville (1737–1820), a sister of General Gottlieb Ludwig von Beville .

Military career

Richthofen first visited the cadet house in Berlin and was employed as a private corporal in the mine corps of the Neisse fortress in the middle of January 14, 1793 . On December 31, 1795 he came as a second lieutenant in the mining corps of the fortress Graudenz . In the Fourth Coalition War Richthofen took part in the defense of the fortress and received a commendation for it.

After the Peace of Tilsit he came to Berlin, where Scharnhorst accepted him on August 6, 1807 as a member of the commission for the re-formation for the pioneers . On December 8, 1809, he received recognition for completing the mining industry in Graudenz. On February 12, 1810, he was transferred to the engineering corps and worked from October 7, 1811 to March 23, 1812 as a teacher for fortification in the war school in Breslau . Then Richthofen was appointed as prime lieutenant to engineer officer vom Platz in Spandau with an allowance of 30 thalers. On August 4, 1812, while retaining his allowance, he was entrusted with the management of the Brandenburg Pioneer Company and promoted to staff captain on March 9, 1813 .

During the wars of liberation he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class during the siege of Stettin , after which he was in the siege of Altdamm . In 1814 he became an engineer officer at the Stettin Fortress , the following year he was transferred to the Luxembourg Fortress in the same capacity and was promoted to captain on April 12, 1815 .

After the war, Richthofen joined the 3rd Engineer Brigade as a major on April 20, 1816 and became the commander of the 8th Engineer Division. On May 9, 1818, he received a major's patent with the date of April 9, 1816. On January 10, 1821, he came to the 3rd Pioneer Inspection as an inspector. On March 30, 1832 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on March 30, 1834 to colonel . Shortly afterwards - on May 30th, 1834 - he was transferred to the 1st Pioneer Inspection as an inspector and at the same time acted as a member of the military study commission and the examination commission for captains of the engineering corps. On the occasion of the festival of the Order, Richthofen was awarded the Red Eagle Order on January 18, 1835 . On April 29, 1836, his inspector's salary was increased to 2,600 thalers. Under awarding of the character as a major general Richthofen took his on March 4, 1837 Farewell to the statutory pension . He died on December 20, 1847 in Berlin and was buried in the garrison cemetery on December 23, 1847 .

Richthofen married on May 27, 1805 in Graudenz Sophie Luise von Krohn (1780-1807), a daughter of the mining captain von Krohn. After the early death of his first wife, he married Emilie von Trebra (1792–1833) on August 27, 1812 in Karlsruhe in Upper Silesia . She was the daughter of his sister Emilie and her husband, Emil von Trebra, councilor of war. The couple had their daughter Julie (1818–1885) and their son Ludwig (1821–1845), both of whom died unmarried.
