Before that he had completed a commercial apprenticeship.

Beyer is active on a voluntary basis in several clubs and associations. He has been Deputy Chairman since March 3, 2012, and Chairman of the Brandenburg State Association of the German Forest Protection Association (SDW) since spring 2015 .

politics

Gregor Beyer is a member of the FDP. From 2009 to 2014 he was a member of the Brandenburg State Parliament. The FDP won seven seats in the state elections in Brandenburg in 2009 . Beyer was ranked 8th on the state list, but was still able to move into the state parliament thanks to Torsten Bathmann's resignation . There he was spokesman for infrastructure , agricultural , environmental and health policy in the FDP parliamentary group . In addition, he was chairman of the Barnim district association of the FDP from 2006 to March 2013 and since 2007 a member of the state board of the FDP Brandenburg . He is chairman of the FDP state committee for infrastructure and agriculture .

After the faction chairman changed from Hans-Peter Goetz to Andreas Büttner in the summer of 2010 , Gregor Beyer was entrusted by the state executive with the provisional takeover of the function of general secretary of the FDP Brandenburg on September 3, 2010. On April 2, 2011, he was elected to succeed Heinz Lanfermann as state chairman at a state party conference . He was confirmed in this position on April 6, 2013 in Falkenberg / Elster for a further two years. Beyer was also an assessor on the federal executive committee of the FDP from 2011 to 2015 .

In April 2013, Beyer criticized the commission of inquiry set up by the Brandenburg state parliament "Dealing with the history and dealing with the consequences of the SED dictatorship and the transition to a democratic constitutional state in the state of Brandenburg" as nonsense, because historians in particular should deal with the past. The Brandenburg parliamentary group chairmen of the CDU and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen countered that the commission, including Richard Schröder , Klaus Schroeder and Helmut Müller-Enbergs and other experts, included "recognized experts". Beyer "evidently doesn't know what he's talking about."

Gregor Beyer is occasionally criticized for not delimiting himself and with him the FDP parliamentary group in the state parliament clearly enough from the SPD-led state government and for not voting too often with the government. Beyer does not seriously dispute this point. In September 2012, he outlined his view “On the essence of the opposition” in an article by name in the Potsdamer Neuesten Nachrichten. Beyer advocates the thesis "that every functioning democratic system is well advised that does not have to contrast the unity of a government camp, which is necessary from a power-strategic point of view, with a closed opposition bloc and thus force large parts of parliamentary events into a self-determining role-play." the “nature of the government and the opposition have an all-important commonality. Both always and without exception have to serve the country with every decision! "

Internal party disputes

Beyer attracted national attention in October and November 2012, because he is public and public with his party colleague Linda Teuteberg , the member of the Brandenburg state parliament and Deputy Beyers in the Brandenburg FDP leadership. a. alleged that she was responsible for rumors against party leaders. The FDP member of the state parliament, Hans-Peter Goetz , expressed incomprehension about this action by Beyer, who was only concerned with "getting rid of Teuteberg". At a special meeting of the state executive, Beyer put a special party congress for the new election of the state chairman in the room. This proposal was rejected with one abstention. A subsequent vote of confidence by Beyer was decided positively with 7 abstentions and 14 votes in favor. A motion of no confidence tabled against Teuteberg at this meeting was inadmissible for reasons of the rules of procedure. However, a mediator to mediate between Beyer and Teuteberg was decided. Although Beyer could not substantiate his allegations, he stuck to them and stated that he would not propose Teuteberg again as deputy state chairman. The Potsdamer Neuesten Nachrichten then described Beyer as a “defamator” who made “defamatory accusations” without “a spark of evidence” . Because Beyer's behavior was "deeply humanly reprehensible" and the "methods practiced ... reminded of bad times" , the Templin FDP local chief Alexander Genschow demanded Beyer's resignation. At the following regional assembly of representatives of the FDP for the election of the state list for the 2013 federal election on November 10, 2012, these allegations and calls for resignation did not play a role. The attempt of the former treasurer of the party, Rainer Siebert , to push through a general discussion on this, failed because of the clear vote of the delegates. At the state party conference of the Brandenburg FDP on April 6, 2013 Siebert criticized Beyer again: "I consider the procedure to be vile and devoid of any human decency. (...) Here someone asked the question of power." Teuteberg, Beyer no longer in his Management team, withdrew their candidacy as deputy state chairman at the party congress in favor of Andreas Büttner . However, Beyer was confirmed in office with 73% of the delegate's votes without responding to Siebert and Teuteberg's criticism. In the media, the result was described as a "damper" because Beyer had achieved an even better result in 2011, but the leadership dispute was presented as largely over.

State election 2014 and resignation

For the state election in Brandenburg in 2014 , Beyer was elected to second place on the list, behind the top candidate and FDP parliamentary group leader Büttner. Both candidates were responsible for a provocative election campaign that started with the slogan “No sow needs the FDP”. Following the lost election, Beyer announced his resignation from the position of party chairman, but remained in office until the new election. Axel Graf Bülow was elected as his successor on November 29, 2014 .
