Grochlitz is a district of Naumburg (Saale) and is located in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt .
location
Grochlitz lies in the northeast of Naumburg and is separated from the rest of the city by the Naumburg – Teuchern railway line .
history
The village of Grochlitz emerged from a Sorbian fishing settlement. The name of the village is interpreted by the linguists as belonging to the clan of the pea man . The first inhabitants of the village are slaves of various gentlemen and later day laborers . In 1030, the corridor around Naumburg was re-regulated and made usable, so that the village came under the control of the Naumburg bishop and from then on belonged to the Naumburg cathedral chapter . For centuries the place was connected to Naumburg by an avenue. From the possessions of the bishopric Naumburg-Zeitz an der Saale, including the place Grochlitz, the Amt Naumburg was formed in 1544 , which came to the Electorate of Saxony in 1564 .
The plague broke out in 1543, 1552, 1566 and 1585 . In 1617, all but 11 people died in Grochlitz an der Ruhr. Various wars and their consequences, for example nervous fever, caused the population to shrink. Thus in 1547 the village was besieged several times by members of the military of Emperor Charles V and by the French under Napoleon in 1806 and numerous buildings were destroyed. Grochlitz belonged as part of the Office Naumburg between 1656/57 and 1718 to Saxon Sekundogenitur -Fürstentum Saxe-Zeitz , then to the Electorate of Saxony and from 1806 to the Kingdom of Saxony . After the decision of the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the place was ceded to the Kingdom of Prussia and assigned to the newly formed district of Naumburg in the administrative district of Merseburg in the province of Saxony in 1818.
A lightning strike in the apartment of the landlord Menzel on June 17, 1810 caused a fire, which quickly spread unnoticed due to the absence of the owner. Despite the rapid response that followed, the fire quickly spread and destroyed ten houses. With the help of Naumburg citizens, the houses were quickly rebuilt. In order to improve the education of the children of the village, a school was set up in Grochlitz in 1821. The 1822 census showed a population of 218 in 54 houses. When it was repealed in 1849, there was an obedience patrimonial court in Grochwitz .
In the 1880s, the widow Lehmann maintained a sanatorium . In 1893 the Leipzig naturopath CE Wagner took over the house and expanded it with a new wing and had a villa built on the mountain , from which one has an excellent all-round view of the Saale valley. After 1922, the sanatorium was taken over by Director Mr. Wild, reached the object at the end of the 1920s in the possession of the company health insurance fund of the Bavarian nitrogen Werke AG . Up to the beginning of the 1940s, up to 50 people could find relaxation in the sanatorium at the same time. After operations ceased, the buildings were sold and then rented out. Today the buildings are in the hands of different owners and have been extensively restored in recent years.
On November 6, 1905, the village was incorporated into Naumburg. This administrative act was preceded by a corresponding resolution by the Naumburg city council on August 11, 1904. It was more of a formal act, as Grochlitz has always been largely administered from the city of Naumburg. At the same time, the streets were given names.
During the Saale flood of the century in 1994, the hall level reached 6.38 meters on April 15, 1994 at the Grochlitz measuring point, its highest level especially on the upper reaches of the Saale.
