Kleinjena is a district of Naumburg (Saale) in the Burgenland district ( Saxony-Anhalt ).

history

Already in the Neolithic Age, both banks were populated because of the Unstrutfurt between Kleinjena and Großjena. Above Kleinjena there are still some preserved barrows of the Cord Ceramic culture. The name in its original form can only be traced back to Old High German and means "row". In 1160 Klein- and Großjena were first mentioned separately as places (teutonico gene and slawico gene). However, as early as the year 1000 there was an important Ekkehardin castle on Kapellenberg and Kirchberg , which was called urbs Geniun (Thietmar) or urbs Gene . With the relocation of the Ekkehardiner headquarters to Naumburg around 1010, it lost its importance. But the resettlement of the merchants who settled near this castle to Naumburg in 1028 by Margrave Hermann attests to the existence of a settlement before the year 1000. In 1258 and 1271 the Bishop of Naumburg sold the dishes about the place to the St. Georgenkloster in Naumburg .
