Roßbach is a district of the cathedral city of Naumburg (Saale) in the Burgenland district in southern Saxony-Anhalt .

Church of St. Elisabeth Roßbach

Roßbach is a street village with large house gardens, a church, a kindergarten, a fairground and the St. Michaelshaus (Catholic youth education center in the diocese of Magdeburg ). The place with about 350 inhabitants is on the federal highway 180 between Naumburg and Kleinjena behind an old road bridge over the Saale . This 77.23 meter long stone arch bridge with four pillars was inaugurated on October 18, 1866.

history

Roßbach was first mentioned in 1214 as Rozpach . A manor was important , of which a knight Heinrich von Rospach is named in 1256 . This manor passed into the possession of the Pforta monastery in 1356 . From 1360 the monks owned the courts over neck and hand and the fishing rights on the Saale between Kösener weir to the Roßbacher ferry. Rossbach went to dissolution of the monastery Pforta 1540 as an official village to the school office Pforta . By the resolutions of the Vienna Congress Rossbach came to Prussia and in 1816 the county Naumburg in the administrative district of Merseburg of the Province of Saxony assigned to which it belonged until the 1944th

The Battle of Roßbach on November 5, 1757 took place near Braunsbedra in the Saalekreis .

Art, culture & club life

Various folk festivals such as the torchlight parade, Saale wine mile and fair take place in the village every year. The ecumenical pilgrimage from Görlitz to Vacha leads through Roßbach. There is also a youth education center here that can be used by groups of all ages.

There is a small industrial park at the entrance to the village. In addition, Roßbach has two wineries ( Saale-Unstrut region ), a hotel and a restaurant.

Naumburg-Roßbach has a stop at the Unstrutbahn . This is served hourly by Abellio Rail Central Germany .

politics

Together with the localities Großjena , Kleinjena and Großwilsdorf, Roßbach forms the municipality of Kleinjena. The local council consists of Jürgen Spielberg, Torsten Grober, Karsten Brehme, Udo Leibnitz, Peter Cebulla, Stefan Rühlmann, Otto Schmidt (as of 07/2012). Local mayor is Jürgen Spielberg and his deputy is Karsten Brehme.

Personalities

  • Johann Friedrich Röhr (1777–1848), doctor of theology, general superintendent and court preacher in Weimar. Röhr gave Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's funeral speech. In Roßbach there is a memorial plaque on house number 31. The main street is also named after him: Dr.-Johann-Friedrich-Röhr-Straße.
