Guinaw Rail Sud is one of the 16 districts (Communes d'arrondissement du Sénégal) of Pikine , the largest city in Senegal before the capital Dakar . The expression "Guinaw Rail" comes from the Wolof language, which is widespread in Senegal, and means "behind the rails" and thus describes the districts that were created without urban planning through wild growth on the southern edge of Alt-Pikine on the other side of the Dakar-Niger railway line . As of 2013, the city district was part of the Restructuration de Pikine Irrégulier Sud (PIS) , a 700 hectare district redevelopment that affects 220,000 residents as part of the motorway project L'autoroute à péage Dakar – Diamniadio for the construction of Autoroute 1 .
geography
Guinaw Rail Sud is located in the southern center of the bottleneck of the Cap-Vert peninsula on both sides of Autoroute 1 and between the Dakar – Niger railway in the north-west and the N 1 national road in the south.
The city district, which is roughly an obtuse-angled triangle with a truncated eastern corner, has an area of 1.3 km². The east-west extension of the district is around 2000 meters, the south-north extension varies between 300 and 1000 meters. To the north of Autoroute 1, the city district is fully built up and very densely populated. The roughly 300 meter wide strip in the south between the A1 and the N1 is largely used for commercial purposes. Among other things, there is a large Dakar Dem Dikk bus depot in the east as well as extensive parking spaces for trucks. In the west, the factory halls of the Societe Industrielle de Papeterie au Senegal (SIPS) dominate .
South of the N1 is the district of Thiaroye sur Mer . Beyond the railway line in the north-west, the boroughs of Pikine Ouest and Pikine Est are neighboring. In the northeast, the development merges into the Guinaw Rail Nord district . In the east, the Route des Niayes forms the demarcation from the Tivaouane Diacksao district .
population
The last censuses showed the following population figures for the city district:
year | Residents |
---|---|
1988 | ... |
2002 | 38 422 |
2013 | 39 859 |
