Gustav Adolf von Selasinsky (born April 2, 1807 in Vargow , † February 1, 1894 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Gustav was a son of the manor owner Friedrich Michael von Selasinsky (1755-1853) and his wife Helene, née von Losthin (1749-1801). His brother Karl Friedrich became a general of the infantry.

Military career

Selasinsky visited the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin . Subsequently, on April 8, 1824, he was transferred as a second lieutenant to the 26th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army . For further training he graduated from the General War School in 1827/30 . In 1834 he was assigned to the topographic office and on March 26, 1837 to serve with the Great General Staff . Selasinsky was promoted to prime lieutenant in early June 1837 , was transferred to the General Staff on April 6, 1839 and was promoted to captain at the end of March 1840 . In the same year he took a six-month leave of absence with a full salary and traveled to Belgium , France , northern Italy and southern Germany to study the history of war on the various battlefields. Then Selasinsky took part in the autumn exercise of the VIII German Federal Corps near Heilbronn . From April 7, 1841 to April 3, 1844 he was active in the General Staff of the II. Army Corps , was then transferred back to the General Staff as a surplus major and added to the budget on November 7, 1844. On March 27, 1847, he joined the 24th Infantry Regiment as a battalion commander , with whom he took part in the street fighting in Berlin during the March Revolution in 1848. Promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 23, 1852 , Selasinsky was initially charged with the command of the 11th Infantry Regiment on May 2, 1852 . Under promotion to Colonel , he was on 22 March 1853 Commander of this association . Due to illness, he took his leave on September 19, 1857 and was put up for disposal with a pension and authorization to wear the army uniform .

For the duration of the mobilization on the occasion of the Sardinian War , he was reused in 1859 as commander of the 20th Landwehr Regiment and awarded the Red Eagle Order III. Excellent with swords. In gratitude, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV gave him the character of Major General on May 3, 1860 . During the mobilization against Denmark in 1864 he was commander of the Deputy 12th Infantry Brigade and on January 14, 1865 was awarded the Order of the Crown, Second Class. The last time Selasinsky was reused during the war against France in 1871/71 as commander of the Deputy 9th Infantry Brigade . He died on February 1, 1894 in Berlin.

Selasinsky married Marie Karoline Countess von Westarp (1823–1866) in Berlin on April 28, 1843 . She was a sister of the politician Otto von Westarp and was buried on December 11, 1866 in the Matthäusfriedhof in Berlin.
