The HMS Stygian (P249) was a British Royal Navy submarine during World War II .
history
The Stygian ( English : Stygian , dark , demonic ) was a boat of the fourth batch of the British S-Class . This lot is also known as the Subtle class . The submarine was launched on January 6, 1943 at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead , northwest England, launched on November 30, 1943 and was put into service by the Royal Navy on February 29, 1944. Although the submarine was part of the fourth construction lot, it carried an additional external stern torpedo tube , as is customary with the boats of the third construction lot .
The Royal Navy deployed the submarine under the command of Lt. GSC Clarabut in the Pacific War .
On September 6, 1944, the HMS Stygian sank a Japanese sailing ship with the deck gun off the coast of Burma . On October 17 and 19, 1944, she sank four smaller Japanese units off Penang .
The British submarine sank a Japanese ship with the on-board cannon on November 28, 1944 off Sabang ( Dutch East Indies ). On December 7, 1944, a Japanese unit sank in the Strait of Malacca .
On January 16, 1945, three Japanese sailing ships were also sunk in Malakka Street.
