Haalbrunn dialect
The Heilbronn dialect or the Heilbronn dialect (also Haalbrunner dialect , Haalbrunnerisch ) is a dialect in Heilbronn : Heilbronn is not on a Swabian - South Franconian language border, but is the center of a transition zone between the South Franconian and Swabian dialect. In the south of Zabergäu and in the Bottwartal , more Swabian is spoken, in the north-west more Rhine-Franconian , in the north-east and east mainly south-east Franconian, in Heilbronn and in the rest of the district southern Franconian . Overall, there is a South Franconian dialect in the lowlands .

Dialect dream of the South Franconian
The map "Spatial division of dialects" shows " the" Heilbronner area "as a dialect area of southern Franconian in a double border position ". So to the south-east Franconian landscape in the east and the Swabian-Franconian transition area in the south. Jakob's division into northeast and east confirms this dual border position in the form of two differently marked sub-areas:
- Northeast area: Southeast Franconian-South Franconian (North Upper German) coined.
- Eastern area: Southeast Franconian Swabian (North Upper German) coined.
Similarities with Hohenlohe
ei (mhd.) → â (Heilbronn / Hohenlohe)
In 1940, says Karl Haag in The boundaries of the Swabian in Württemberg from an East Frankish coinage: " Heilbronn holds tenaciously to the East Frankish firmly so accessible it shows up in the rest of the traffic Swabian influence " 1968 is this of Hugo Steger in speaking world Education and History in Eastern Francs confirmed.
In 1984 Karlheinz Jakob attributes East Franconian influences from the Hohenlohe area to the north-east and east of the Heilbronn area. Both the northeast area and the east area (Heilbronner area) together show " a distinctive East Franconian character, which represents the westernmost appearance of East Franconia in the Heilbronn area " - so the flat-tongued monophthongs for mhd . egg .
Middle High German ei; Swabian: oi, Hohenlohisch : â (aa), Heilbronn â (aa) :

A particularly beautiful example is Langenbeutingen , a place in the Heilbronn eastern region. The place was assigned to the district of Heilbronn through the district reform, but had belonged to the East Franconian Hohenlohe district. Langenbeutingen is the only exception, according to which the district border between Heilbronn and Öhringen does not form the dialect border between South Franconian and East Franconian.
In Hohenlohe the East Franconian dialect prevails . The western border of the Hohenlohe area historically coincides with the western border of the former territory of Hohenlohe. Öhringen and the surrounding area have been part of the Hohenlohe rule since the 13th century. This boundary has existed for over 700 years and was continued by the district boundary between Heilbronn and Öhringen.
ê / ôe / ô (mhd.) → ǭ / ḝ (Heilbronn / Hohenlohe)
The north-east area also has similarities with the north-west area, which is dominated by the Rhine-Franconian-South Franconian region:
- monophthongic reflexes for the series mhd. ie, mhd. üe and mhd. uo
- diphthong reflexes for mhd. o and mhd. ô
- in the “Swabian-Franconian contrasts” for mhd. ä, mhd. ë, mhd. âe and mhd. - “ largely closed qualities ”.
- Numerous vowel abbreviations for open syllable extended mhd. short vowels
In cases 3 and 4, the north-east area is much closer to the south area and thus shows “ 'Swabian' qualities and quantities ”.
In the Heilbronner Ost area you will find the following characteristics that are close to the Hohenlohe area and Southeast Franconia:
- " Diphthong reflexes for mhd. Ie, mhd. Üe and mhd. Uo. (common characteristic of Swabian and Southeast Franconian) "
- “ Open qualities for mhd. Ê / ôe / ô (characteristic of the Hohenlohe region to the east, see Kt. 52). "
Cases 1 and 2 show a relationship to the eastern region that is older in terms of linguistic history: “ The clear and 'stable' sound boundaries for mhd. Ie, mhd. Üe and mhd. Uo as well as for mhd. Ê, mhd. Ôe and mhd. ô therefore seem to be older in terms of linguistic history, since they form a clear regional border regardless of the historical small area ”.
- ǭ / ḝ: Langenbeutingen, Eberstadt, Löwenstein, Unterheinriet, Untergruppenbach, Flein and Horkheim.
- ǭ / ḝ: Heilbronn, Ellhofen, Willsbach and Eschenau; next to ộ / ệ.
