course
The Han River rises in the southwest of the Chinese province of Shaanxi and flows through the province of Hubei in a northwest-southeast direction until it flows into the Yangtze on the left in the city of Wuhan . The Han forms the border between the two districts of Hankou and Hanyang .
history
Since Liu Bang , the founder of the Han dynasty, originally had his rule in the area of the Han River, he named his dynasty after it. The self-designation of the Chinese as the Han people , as well as the Chinese language as the Han language ( Hànyǔ ) and the characters as the Han sign ( Hànzì ) ultimately go back to the name of this river via the dynasty.
