Hans Firzlaff

Hans Firzlaff (born March 29, 1921 in Kolberg ; † March 1, 2012 in Hanover ) was a German writer , editor and publisher . As a graphic artist and press draftsman , the artist and self-taught created political caricatures , joke drawings, illustrations and critical graphics on various topics. In addition, Firzlaff is known as the "rediscoverer of the boxer Johann 'Rukelie' Trollmann ".

Life

Hans Firzlaff was born at the beginning of the Weimar Republic in 1921 in East Pomerania . In his youth he went boxing and saw Rukeli Trollmann, who lives in Hanover, as his idol.

Together with Reinhard Schamuhn on April 8, 1967, and since 1972 with Mike Gehrke , Firzlaff was one of the founders of the old town flea market in Hanover.

In Hanover, Firzlaff published the satirical newspaper Niespulver from around the beginning of the 1968 movement from 1968 to 1983 . He was also the publisher of Satire Verlag .

Firzlaff was friends with Grethe Jürgens and Erich Wegner , both painters of the New Objectivity , who after the suppression during the time of National Socialism only came into the public eye again as artists with the beginning of the student movement .

In addition to sending his own works to exhibitions at home and abroad, Hans Firzlaff also took part in various campaigns in Hanover.

Firzlaff is considered to be the "rediscoverer of the boxer Johann 'Rukelie' Trollmann ", the German light heavyweight champion who was slain by the Nazis in the Neuengamme concentration camp in 1944 as a persecuted and deported Sinto . Hans Firzlaff had been researching Trollmann since the 1960s, but was initially repeatedly rejected by the family's survivors.

In 1979 Firzlaff had an apartment and studio at Fuldaer Wende 79 in the Hanover district of Leinhausen .
