Doğankent (until 1964 Harşit ) is a town and administrative center of the district of the same name in the Giresun province .

The city, 24 km from the Black Sea coast , is located on the Harşit Çayı , 46 km (79 kilometers by road) southeast of the provincial capital Giresun and 60 km northwest of Gümüşhane . The city is home to more than half of the district's population (2018: 51.2%).

district

Doğankent County borders on Güce County to the west, Tirebolu County to the north and Çanakçı County to the northeast . In addition, the province of Gümüşhane and the district of Kürtün form a common border in the southeast . With 61 inhabitants per square kilometer, the district with its population density is slightly below the provincial average (64.6).

The newly formed district was split off from the southern part of Tirebolu County in 1990. Until then, all places belonged to the Bucak Doğankent of this circle. The last population information before the change of area comes from the 1985 census and showed 9,539 inhabitants, of which 3,394 inhabitants for the Bucak main town ( Bucak Merkezi ) Doğankent.

At the end of 2018, the district consisted of the district town and nine villages ( Köy ) with an average of 363 inhabitants per village (total population of all villages: 3,264 inhabitants). The village of Çatak is the largest with 908 inhabitants.
