history
Hartford Township was founded in 1867. In 1879 a railway line was built through the area. In 1881 the railroad company laid out what is now the city, which was named after the city of Hartford , Connecticut . In the same year a post office was set up. A number of shops, hotels and a whole range of other commercial enterprises have sprung up in the new settlement. In 1896, a petition was filed with the county government and the Town of Hartford was incorporated.
