The Harz Tour (also: Harz Tour ) is a German road bike race .

history

In 1906 the one-day race was held for the first time under the title "Around the Harz ". The name was later changed to "Harz Tour".

In the period from 1974 to 1987, seven stages of the GDR tour were declared as a Harz tour , sometimes under different names such as “Rund im Harz”, “Quer durch ...”, “ Dessau - Nordhausen ” and others

Over the years it came to the fact that the race could often not be carried out, so that it was only re-run after the political change in 1989/90.

The most famous winners of the race include Gustav-Adolf Schur , who won the race four times (1955, 1956, 1959 and 1960), and Jan Ullrich (1994).

In 2008 the Harz Tour was held as part of the Rad-Bundesliga . The route with start and finish in Wernigerode led through the Saxony-Anhalt part of the Harz Mountains. The organizing club is the Harzer Radsportclub Wernigerode .

Remarks

  1. Drogan is listed as the winner, as Drogan's victory on the 8th stage of the GDR tour was also rated as a victory of the Harz tour.
  2. Hartnick and Gansert are both listed as winners, as Hartnick's victory on the 6th and Gansert's victory on the 7th stage of the GDR tour were also counted as victories of the Harz tour, so there were two events in 1974.
  3. So-called Harzquerfahrten were carried out, the winners of which are not known.
