A housekeeping gene (also English housekeeping gene , non-regulated gene , constitutively expressed gene ) is a gene which, regardless of cell type, cell stage and external influences expressed will, in contrast to the regulated genes .

Household genes are typically genes that encode the structural molecules and enzymes that are related to the basic metabolism of cells, such as glucose metabolism .

They often do not contain a TATA box , but do contain CAAT or GC boxes .
