Heinrich Ebhardt

Georg Wilhelm Heinrich Ebhardt ( baptized January 4, 1808 in Hanover ; † April 14, 1899 there ) was a German printer and manufacturer. The founder of the business book factory JC König & Ebhardt , a global company, is considered to be the "inventor" of the business book in its long-established form ".

Life

Born as the son of a cloth merchant in the turmoil of the so-called " French era " in the Kingdom of Westphalia , Heinrich Ebhardt completed a commercial apprenticeship in Hanover and worked briefly in Hildesheim at the beginning of the Kingdom of Hanover .

Back in Hanover, Ebhardt soon worked for the chicory factory founded in 1822 by his later stepfather Johann Christoph König (1783–1867), which he had set up at “ Aegidienthor , Kirchwende 2”. 1832 or 1833 Ebhardt was initially co-owner of his father's company stepmother had become, still driving at the time as a "clerk" with the horse-drawn carriage across the country. After Heinrich Ebhardt was appointed Kommerzienrat in 1881 , he donated the Gutenberg Fountain , erected in 1890 on Friedrichswall , to the city of Hanover - “[...] probably in memory of the 450th anniversary of the invention of the art of printing, in honor of Gutenberg ” Work by City Planning Inspector Paul Rowald and the sculptor Carl Dopmeyer . Heinrich Ebhardt was buried in the Engesohde city cemetery . In Department 9B, grave number 70–75, there is also a portrait designed by the sculptor Carl Dopmeyer - a bust of the "inventor [s]" of the business book in its long-standing form ".
