history

The Sorbian place name is derived from the term šenka for a tavern or inn.

For the year 1844 there were 61 inhabitants in Heinrichsfeld who lived in eight buildings. At that time the village was parish to Spremberg. Heinrichsfeld used to be a predominantly Sorbian-speaking village, but the number of Sorbian-speaking residents fell sharply from the middle of the 19th century. For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a total population of 182 in the 1880s, of which only 12 were Sorbs and 170 were German.

After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the previously Saxon Lower Lusatia and thus the village of Heinrichsfeld passed to the Kingdom of Prussia . When the new district was formed in 1816, the manor district came to the Spremberg district . In 1903 the Heinrichsfeld estate was converted into a municipality. On January 1, 1946, the place was incorporated into the city of Spremberg together with Kochsdorf and Slamen . On July 25, 1952, the new Spremberg district in the Cottbus district was formed from the Spremberg district , to which the town of Spremberg and its districts were assigned. After the fall of the Wall , Heinrichsfeld was initially in the Spremberg district in Brandenburg . After the district reform in December 1993, Heinrichsfeld came to the newly formed Spree-Neisse district .
