action

After having heard nothing from her daughter Fanny, who is studying in Italy , for days , the divorced Munich civil servant Lisbeth travels by bus to Urbino . When Fanny unexpectedly welcomes Lisbeth at the bus station, she makes her mother aware of the cause of her inaccessibility: for several weeks she has been in a relationship with Luca, the son of a German and an Italian. The newly in love couple spends every free minute together - a message that irritates the hitherto ignorant Lisbeth, as she has been very open and trusting with her daughter. On the same evening Lisbeth made the acquaintance of Lucas' widowed mother Carla. Already in the first conversation the wealthy teacher turns out to be the exact opposite of the often clumsy Lisbeth: Carla thinks a lot of herself and her Luca, but little of other Germans and, for her, no woman is really good enough for her perfect son.

When Luca announces at a dinner with family and friends that he and Fanny are engaged and intend to get married, the mothers are amazed. Keeping composure, they congratulate the children on their decision. Secretly, however, both of them consider the project to be completely hasty and Fanny and Luca, who will soon start a legal clerkship in Ascona after completing his law degree , are still far too young. When Lisbeth wants to take the coach back the next morning, she decides after a few kilometers to get off the car and travel back to Urbino to have a clarifying conversation with her daughter. However, she reacts anything but understanding to her mother's fears, who have not been able to speak well to men since her divorce. When Luca visits Fanny that night on her balcony after a discussion with Carla, he persuades her to follow him to his family's country house.

The next morning both mothers find orphaned beds. Carla suspects where the couple has gone and persuades Lisbeth to take her to the country house to prevent a wedding. When Lisbeth and Carla forcibly gain entry through the roof of the house, Fanny and Luca are able to slip away again before they can even talk to each other. Her new target is Luca's grandmother, who as Mayor of Frontone has the right to hold weddings and should marry the couple as soon as possible. After Lisbeth and Carla receive a short message that their children want to get married without them, they simply report Carla's car, which Luca has taken, to her brother-in-law, the police officer Marco, as stolen. Discovered by the patrol, Fanny and Luca spend one night in the cell, but are released by Marco because of the false report uncovered by Lucas .

Lisbeth and Carla then also decide to go to Carla's mother-in-law. So that they can still prevent the wedding, the unequal couple, who initially can't stand each other, have to work together. You travel through the Italian provinces, where Carla's perfect facade crumbles more and more and the lonely Lisbeth gains self-confidence. After her car was stolen at a gas station and the two are stranded penniless in Cagli , Carla again asks Marco for help. When he helps Lisbeth to get her car back from the thieves, the evening ends in a passionate night. Meanwhile, Fanny learns that Luca has quit his studies and wants to start a new life with her in Québec . After an argument, she calls her mother and asks her to come to Frontone. Once there, Lisbeth and Carla admit mistakes and can reconcile their children who want to postpone a marriage for the time being.

Reviews

Katja Flint and colleague Saskia Vester received positive reviews for their portrayal in the film.

The online portal Filmdienst called marriages is also not a solution in its criticism as a "sympathetic (television) comedy, excellently cast, routinely staged". The Lexicon of International Films , which described the production as an “excellent comedy about life plans and their correction”, gave a similar verdict . TV Spielfilm also wrote: “Amore, family ties, a touch of depth and nicely placed situational comedy - that's what many TV films try to get under one roof. But only a few succeed as well as director Sibylle Tafel. A light tone of voice and beautiful details also inspire the actors, especially Saskia Vester [...] Juicy panettone, served with witty humor! "

Rainer Tittelbach called the film on Tittelbach.tv “an almost perfect feel-good film: dramaturgically flawless - strong character, perfectly timed, the locations, the landscape, the light ready for the cinema. A plot like a river, a film from a single source. Italy romance with a touch of american look . An entertainment film that withstands a second (critical) look ”. He found the Vester “her mother's roll compartment wonderful” varied and “Flint's chick delicious” etched. Sibylle Tafel's “Findungs-Road-Movie” produces “regressive joy” and also has “cult film character. So easy comedy is also possible on television! ”.

Antje Wessels of Quotenmeter declared married is not the answer be to settle as a "friendly chat" category "TV kitsch" in the "lower average." The “boring script” misses “a few surprises that bring a little whistle to the bobbing story. Right from the start, the inclined viewer can figure out how the TV movie, which is full of good actors through and through, will end ”. It takes "little imagination to spin the story with all its errors and sometimes absurd confusions to the end". The actors presented themselves “in a good mood”. While Vester in particular seems “extremely authentic”, Flint occasionally tends to overact .

Marcel Kawentel wrote in his review for the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung : “A wild road trip begins - or at least what you mean by it on a Friday evening on ARD. [...] After half an hour, the viewer doesn't want anything else, because Lisbeth is so tranquil that you want to grab her and shake her. [...] The same applies to Katja Flint, the arrogant mother of the groom - how could it be otherwise? - embodies the complete opposite. Of course the two do like each other after all. And of course the Italian way of life enchants everyone in front of and behind the screen. In the end, everyone is sitting around a table like in a rustic commercial for olive oil. Only the viewer nibbles on his bland chips and wonders what all this is supposed to tell him ”.
