King Heonjong ( Korean 헌종 ) (born August 1, 1084 in Kaesŏng , Kingdom of Goryeo ; † November 6, 1097 in Kaesŏng, Goryeo) was the 14th king of the Goryeo Empire and the Goryeo Dynasty during his reign from 1094 to 1095 ( 고려 왕조 ) (918-1392).

Life

Heonjong was the firstborn son of King Seonjong ( 선종 ) and his wife Queen Sasuk ( 사숙 ), who came from the Incheon Lee clan. Heonjong was given the name Wang Uk ( 왕욱 ) when he was born . King Heonjong was married to Queen Hoesun ( 회순 ), who came from the Jinju So clan. The marriage remained childless.

Heonjong was crowned king at the age of nine when his father died in June 1094. But it soon turned out that he was sick and so his uncle Wang Ong 왕옹 took over the throne a year later as King Sukjong ( 숙종 ).

Heonjong passed away at the age of 14. His grave is not known.
