Herbert Becker (General)

Herbert Becker (born March 13, 1887 in Torgau , † January 3, 1974 in Gernlinden ) was a German officer, most recently lieutenant general of the police and SS group leader in World War II .

Life

Becker attended elementary school and high school in his hometown and completed his school career in 1906 with the Abitur . He then embarked on the career of a professional soldier and was initially stationed in Celle . From 1907 he served with the rank of lieutenant in the field artillery regiment "Hochmeister" No. 72 . From August 1914 he took part in the First World War. In October 1914 he was promoted to first lieutenant and in October 1915 to captain . After a war injury in July 1915, he was transferred to Reserve Field Artillery Regiment No. 16 , where he was department commander and later division adjutant . Most recently he was again with the field artillery regiment "Hochmeister" No. 72. From January to October 1919 he commanded the 3rd battery of the 4th Light Artillery Regiment.

In November 1919 he entered the service of the Prussian security police and was stationed in Marienwerder, Hanover , Münster , Potsdam , Berlin , Spandau and Bonn .

After the " seizure of power " he joined the NSDAP in May 1933 ( membership number 3.144.750). As a major , he was promoted to commander of the protection police in Recklinghausen in June 1935 and to lieutenant colonel in the protection police in October 1935 and to colonel of the protection police in June 1936. From mid-September 1936 he was Inspector of the Ordnungspolizei (BdO) in Military District VI with its headquarters in Münster. After the annexation of Austria , he led marching groups in Graz and Vienna from March 19, 1938 . In Vienna he was from May 1938 commander of the protection police and from June 1938 inspector of the Ordnungspolizei (BdO). On November 9, 1938, Becker was accepted into the SS (SS No. 310,477) with the rank of SS-Standartenführer .

After the beginning of the Second World War he was in the course of the attack on Poland commander of the Ordnungspolizei (BdO) in the military district of Lodz and from the end of October 1939 at the Higher SS and Police Leader (HSSPF) Generalgouvernement with official seat in Krakow . From October 1940 he was BdO at the HSSPF North Sea in Hamburg . In April 1942 he returned to his post as BdO in Krakow. From July 1943 he was General Inspector of the Police in the Main Office of the Ordnungspolizei , where he also headed the Working Staff South in April 1945.

After the war he lived in Gauting .
