history

In 1894 a church building association was founded . In the following years, a building site for the church had to be found that was safe from pits. The search for a suitable building site turned out to be very difficult and lengthy, so that construction work could not begin until 1910. The first plans for the church building were presented in 1905 by the architect Moritz Gombert from Saarbrücken . The final construction plans, approved by the Royal Prussian Government and the Episcopal Vicariate General in Trier , were available in September 1907. The foundation stone was laid on June 5, 1910, and a little more than a year later, on August 6, 1911, the new branch church of the Sulzbach parish was solemnly blessed by Pastor Jakob Royer. The construction costs were supposed to be 135,000 marks , but in the end came to the sum of 184,000 marks.

In the 1960s the church underwent a restoration . Further restorations took place in 1993, 2000-02 and 2010-2011.

Furnishing

Inside the church is the wood-carved high altar , designed in 1930 by master builder Ludwig Becker ( Mainz ) and restored in 2002 , which shows scenes from the life of Jesus. It is a foundation of the first parish priest Theodor Hein. The art workshop Johannes Mettler ( St. Wendel ) was responsible for the execution of the altar .

The church windows date from 1960 and are the work of Hardy Dietrich (company Glaskunst Binsfeld, Trier). In 1993 the windows were restored, which was tantamount to a redesign, but where fragments of the old glazing were incorporated. The three leaded glass windows in the choir are designed to match the scenes of the high altar, with the right choir window being given new artistic glazing as part of the restoration work in 2010/2011.

Other items of equipment worth mentioning in the church are the Pietà in the former side entrance of the church, which was converted into a chapel , the rosary altar of Our Lady in the side aisle , the figure "The Good Shepherd", which was given a place at the baptismal font after its restoration in 2002 , the tabernacle of 1911 (restored in 2003) and the monstrance , the structure of which is based on the structure of the altar and, like the high altar, was donated by the first pastor of the community, Theodor Hein. The Way of the Cross was created by Munich artists in 1928–29 and restored in 2003.

The interior was painted in 1927 by the church painter Josef Held ( Düsseldorf ). In the course of the restoration in 2010/2011, the choir and aisles were repainted and the old paint on the vaults and walls was removed. In addition , four relief images of the evangelists were attached to the old pulpit, which today serves as an ambo .

organ

The organ of the church was built in the 1920s by the organ building company Franz Kämmerer ( Speyer ). The instrument with tubular pneumatics is set up on a gallery above the entrance portal.
