IC 1221 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Scd in the constellation Hercules at the northern sky . It is estimated to be 250 million light years from the Milky Way and about 95,000 light years in diameter. Together with IC 1222 , it forms the isolated galaxy pair KPG 500 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on July 10, 1890 .
