IC 2079 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Dorado in the southern sky . It is an estimated 473 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 170,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies IC 2073 , IC 2081 , IC 2082 , IC 2083 .
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart on December 7, 1899 .
