I swear and vow is a medical melodrama written in 1959 by Géza von Radványi with Hans-Christian Blech , Wolfgang Lukschy and Corny Collins in the leading roles. The story was based on a magazine novel published by Stern .
action
The story takes place in a hospital in the still young Federal Republic at the end of the 1950s. Dr. med. Feldhusen has worked his way up to the position of chief physician, although his marriage to the daughter of an influential consul was definitely helpful in this career jump. Feldhusen is regarded as a luminary in his field. Regrettably, the recognition given to him and his social rank has gone very much to his head. Although he is a brilliant theorist, it is difficult to put his knowledge into practice. In addition, he, who tends to be arrogant, often lacks sensitivity when dealing with patients.
Senior Physician Dr. Neugebauer is the exact opposite of Feldhusen. He is also technically excellent in practice, and even clearly superior to his boss. When Feldhusen begins to make mistakes in the hospital, Neugebauer thinks he has to point them out. A dispute between the two doctors promptly ensues. Feldhusen feels offended in his honor as superior and dismisses his competent gynecologist, whereupon his wife, Lieselotte Neugebauer, turns away from her husband. The dismissal of Neugebauer has serious consequences because Dr. Feldhusen promptly makes a dramatic mistake during the next medical intervention, a delivery. Dr. Feldhusen then tried everything to cover up this mistake and to wash his stained vest white again even in court ...
