The Iserlohner Höhe is one to 545.9  m above sea level. NN ( Balver Wald in the northeast) high ridge in the Sauerland in the Mark region, immediately south of the eponymous town of Iserlohn , the center of which is around ( Hemer -) Ihmert . It represents the (north) easternmost and at the same time the highest mountain range of the natural spatial main unit Märkisches Oberland within the main unit group Süderbergland .

Location and limits

The Iserlohner Höhe extends to the north to immediately before the core city areas of Iserlohn and, to the east of it, Hemers , and is orographically bounded to the west and east by tributaries of the Ruhr flowing in northerly directions .

The southwest border is the valley of the Lenne from below Werdohl via Altena to Lössel in the southwest of Iserlohn.

In contrast, the eastern border is the valley of the Hönne from Neuenrade via Balve and Volkringhausen to roughly the city limits of Hemer.

Places in the interior are in particular Ihmert in the center, Kesbern in the northwest, Frönsberg in the north and Dahle and Evingsen in the south.

Natural structure

The Iserlohner Höhe is structured as follows (in the finer sub-units with two decimal places, individual locations are sometimes linked for better localization):

The actual mountain range is the Ihmerthochfläche , which is covered to the north by Iserlohner Stadtwald and Hemer Berge and to the east by Balver Wald and Küstroper Berge . Within the above-mentioned incline, only the Iserlohn city forest, which is a little more rich in relics, has its own elevations, while the other (partial) natural areas mentioned roof directly from the plateau, with the northern notch valleys belonging to the Iserlohn city forest and the Hemer mountains and cutting into the Ihmerthochplatz.

In particular, the mountains Balver Wald and Hemer Berge are on the Ihmerthochfläche and not in the sub-natural areas of the same name.
