The place, categorized as a courtyard according to the location and distance table of the government district of Arnsberg , had nine residential buildings and eleven agricultural buildings in 1839. At that time, 66 residents lived in the village, all of whom were evangelicals.

In 1844 the municipality of Hülscheid with Linscheid was split off from the Halver office and assigned to the newly established Lüdenscheid office .

The place is recorded on the Prussian first recording from 1840 as Lindscheid . From the Prussian new admission in 1892, the location is recorded on the TK25 measuring table as Linscheid .

The municipality and estate district statistics of the province of Westphalia in 1871 listed the place as a courtyard with twelve houses and 85 inhabitants. The municipality lexicon for the province of Westphalia in 1885 gives a number of 96 inhabitants for Linscheid who lived in 14 houses. In 1895 the place had 16 houses with 85 inhabitants, in 1905 13 houses and 87 inhabitants are given.

In 1969, the municipalities of Hülscheid and Schalksmühle were merged to form the large municipality ( unified municipality ) of Schalksmühle in the Altena district and Linscheid has since been politically part of Schalksmühle, which became part of the newly created Märkische Kreis in 1975 due to the Sauerland / Paderborn law .
