Location and description

The residential area is located on the southern outskirts of Hülscheid and, like the directly neighboring Brinkerhof , forms a joint, closed settlement area with it today, but was separated from Hülscheid until the second half of the 20th century and was perceptible as an independent settlement. The original settlement was on the street of the same name Schmermbecke .

Other neighboring towns in the Schalksmühler municipal area are Altenhülscheid , Ramsloh , Westhöhe , Spormecke , Siepen , Berkey , Mummeshohl , Davidshöhe , Felde , Mesewinkel , Eichholz , Heedfeld , Lauenscheidermühle and the deserted Hilmecke .

history

Until the 19th century Schmermbecke belonged to the farming community of Winkeln in the parish of Hülscheid . From 1816 the place was part of the municipality of Hülscheid in the mayor's office Halver in the Altena district , in 1818 18 people lived in the place. The place, which was categorized as a courtyard according to the location and distance table of the government district of Arnsberg , had four houses in 1839, a factory or mill and two agricultural buildings. At that time, 39 residents lived in the village, all of whom were evangelicals.

In 1844, the municipality of Hülscheid with Schmermbecke was split off from the Halver office and assigned to the newly established Lüdenscheid office .

The place is recorded on the Prussian first recording from 1840 under the name Schmerbecke . From the Prussian new admission of 1892, the place is recorded on the TK25 measuring table as Schmermbecke .

The municipality and estate district statistics of the province of Westphalia in 1871 listed the place as a courtyard with five houses and 43 inhabitants. The community encyclopedia for the province of Westphalia in 1885 gives a number of 27 residents for Schmermbecke who lived in five houses. In 1895 the place had five houses with 37 inhabitants, in 1905 four houses and 29 inhabitants are given.

In 1969, the municipalities of Hülscheid and Schalksmühle were merged to form an unofficial large municipality ( unitary municipality ) of Schalksmühle in the Altena district and Schmermbecke has since been politically part of Schalksmühle, which in 1975 became part of the newly created Märkische Kreis due to the Sauerland / Paderborn law .

In the second half of the 20th century, the closed Hülscheid residential development expanded southwards via the Brinkerhof in between and reached the Schmermbecke residential area.
