history

Until the 19th century, Siepen belonged to the Midder peasantry of the parish of Hülscheid . From 1816 the place was part of the municipality of Hülscheid in the mayor's office Halver in the Altena district , in 1818 six people lived in the place. The place categorized under the name Siepen as Kotten according to the place and distance table of the government district Arnsberg had a residential house and a factory or mill in 1839. At that time, nine people lived in the village, all of whom were evangelicals.

In 1844 the municipality of Hülscheid with Siepen was split off from the Halver Office and assigned to the newly established Lüdenscheid Office .

The place is recorded on the Prussian first recording from 1840 under the name Siepen . From the Prussian new admission of 1892, the place is recorded on the TK25 measuring table as Siepen .

The municipality and estate district statistics of the province of Westphalia in 1871 listed the place as Kotten under the name Siepen with one house and seven residents. The municipality lexicon for the province of Westphalia in 1885 gives a number of six inhabitants for Siepen who lived in a residential building. In 1895 the place had two houses with 13 inhabitants, in 1905 two houses and twelve inhabitants are given.

In 1969, the municipalities of Hülscheid and Schalksmühle were merged to form an unofficial municipality ( unitary municipality ) of Schalksmühle in the Altena district, and Siepen has since been politically part of Schalksmühle, which became part of the newly created Märkische Kreis in 1975 due to the Sauerland / Paderborn law .
