The district emerges from a residential area that is located in the Volmetal on today's federal road 54 near the core town. Today the district extends as a street settlement along the street of the same name Flaßkamp from the valley up towards Dahlhausen up to 300 m altitude. history

Flaßkamp emerged at the end of the 19th century and was initially part of the community Hülscheid in office Lüdenscheid in county Altena . From the Prussian new admission of 1892 the place is recorded on the TK25 measuring table as Flaßkamp .

The municipality encyclopedia for the province of Westphalia in 1895 gives a number of 53 inhabitants for Flaßkamp who lived in five houses. In 1905 seven houses and 131 inhabitants are given.

In the course of the 20th century, the residential development of the place gradually expanded along the Flaßkamp street, mainly uphill towards Dahlhausen.

In 1969, the municipalities of Hülscheid and Schalksmühle were merged to form the large municipality ( unified municipality ) of Schalksmühle in the Altena district and since then Flaßkamp has belonged politically to Schalksmühle, which in 1975 became part of the newly created Märkisches Kreis due to the Sauerland / Paderborn law .
