history

The hammer mills and water mills roller and powder mill, as well as the residential area Twieströmen on the Volme around 1795.

Twieströmen belonged to the western farmers of the parish of Hülscheid until the 19th century . From 1816 the place was part of the municipality of Hülscheid in the mayor's office of Halver in the Altena district , in 1818 eight residents lived in the place. The place categorized as Kotten according to the place and distance table of the government district Arnsberg had a residential house and two agricultural buildings in 1839.

In 1844 the municipality of Hülscheid with Twieströmen was split off from the Halver office and assigned to the newly established Lüdenscheid office .

The place is not labeled on the Prussian first recording from 1840. From the Prussian new admission of 1892 the place is recorded on the TK25 measuring table as Twieströmen .

The municipality and estate district statistics of the province of Westphalia in 1871 listed the place as Kotten under the name Twieströmen with one house and 19 residents. The municipality lexicon for the province of Westphalia in 1885 gives Twieströmen a number of 38 inhabitants who lived in two houses. In 1895 the place had five houses with 88 inhabitants, in 1905 six houses and 110 inhabitants are given.

In the 1870s / 80s the Hagen – Dieringhausen railway line was built on site . Also in the second half of the 19th century the road in the Volmetal was laid out, today's federal road 54. Initially, the road followed the bank line in the river loop, but at the beginning of the 20th century the road was straightened and relocated to the current route. By the middle of the 20th century, factories took up the entire area of the river bend and transformed the residential area into a purely industrial location for the metal industry.

In 1969, the municipalities of Hülscheid and Schalksmühle were merged to form an unofficial municipality ( unitary municipality ) of Schalksmühle in the Altena district, and Twieströmen has since been politically part of Schalksmühle, which became part of the newly created Märkische Kreis in 1975 due to the Sauerland / Paderborn law .
