Buchholz, which initially belonged to the parish and the district of Halver , was first mentioned in a document in 1800, the time of origin of the settlement can probably not be dated earlier. The courtyard was a split from Rottsiepen.

The place is from the Prussian new recording from 1892 on Ordnance Survey of TK25 as Buchholz recorded.

On October 1, 1912, the area around the place was spun off from the municipality of Halver and assigned to the newly founded municipality of Schalksmühle.
