history

Until the 19th century, Schlöten belonged to the Midder farmers of the parish of Hülscheid . From 1816 the place was part of the municipality of Hülscheid in the mayor's office of Halver in the Altena district , in 1818 13 residents lived in the place. The place categorized as a courtyard according to the place and distance table of the government district Arnsberg had two houses under the name Schloeten in 1839 , a factory or mill and two agricultural buildings. At that time 19 residents lived in the village, all of whom were evangelicals.

In 1844 the municipality of Hülscheid with Schlöten was split off from the Halver office and assigned to the newly established Lüdenscheid office .

The place is recorded on the Prussian first recording from 1840 under the name Schlöter . From the Prussian new admission in 1892, the location is recorded on the TK25 measuring table as chimneys .

The municipality and estate district statistics of the province of Westphalia in 1871 listed the place as a farm under the name Schlöten with four houses and 40 inhabitants. The municipality lexicon for the province of Westphalia in 1885 gives a number of 31 residents for Schlöten who lived in four houses. In 1895 the place had four houses with 27 inhabitants, in 1905 four houses and 18 inhabitants are given.

In 1969, the municipalities of Hülscheid and Schalksmühle were merged to form the large municipality ( unified municipality ) of Schalksmühle in the Altena district and since then Schlöten has belonged politically to Schalksmühle, which became part of the newly created Märkische Kreis in 1975 due to the Sauerland / Paderborn law .
