history

Grünental emerged in the second half of the 19th century and was part of the municipality Hülscheid in office Lüdenscheid in county Altena .

On the Prussian new recording from 1892 and the edition from 1913, the location is incorrectly marked downstream on the TK25 measuring table , on the northern edge of Klagebach. From the 1921 edition the place is labeled Grünenthal , but the 1955 edition is labeled Grünental .

The municipality and estate district statistics of the province of Westphalia in 1871 listed the place as an establishment under the name Grünenthal with two houses and 20 inhabitants. The municipality lexicon for the province of Westphalia in 1885 gives a number of six inhabitants for Grünental who lived in a residential building. In 1895 the place had a house with five inhabitants, in 1905 one house and two inhabitants are given.

In 1969, the municipalities of Hülscheid and Schalksmühle were merged to form an unofficial municipality ( unitary municipality ) of Schalksmühle in the Altena district and Grünental has since been politically part of Schalksmühle, which became part of the newly created Märkische Kreis in 1975 due to the Sauerland / Paderborn law .
