The rural community of Breckerfeld with Huxhardt was combined with the town of Breckerfeld in 1899 to form the expanded town of Breckerfeld. In 1905 two houses and 15 inhabitants are given.

On January 1, 1970, as part of the municipal reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia, due to the law to reorganize the Ennepe-Ruhr district, a larger local area was split off at Im Dahl von Breckerfeld and incorporated into Schalksmühle. Since then, Huxhardt has been politically part of Schalksmühle, which in 1975 became part of the newly created Märkische Kreis due to the Sauerland / Paderborn law .
