history

Kuhlenhagen belonged to the Midder farmers of the parish Hülscheid until the 19th century and in 1839 was part of the municipality of Hülscheid in the mayor's office of Halver in the Altena district . The place categorized as Kotten according to the place and distance table of the government district Arnsberg had a house in 1839. At that time, six residents lived in the village, all of whom were evangelicals.

In 1844 the municipality of Hülscheid with Kuhlenhagen was split off from the Halver office and assigned to the newly established Lüdenscheid office .

The place is not labeled on the Prussian first recording from 1840. From the Prussian new admission of 1892, the place is recorded on the TK25 measuring table as Kuhlenhagen .

To the east of the village, at the intersection of Am Nocken / Muhlerhagen / Gewerbering / Stallhaus, the Kuhlenhagen iron mine was found. The mutation report of June 26, 1853 says: “ From the NE corner of a farmland belonging to Neuhaus zu Stahlhausen in h Ost 5 14 Lachter away and 1 1/2 Lachter south of the police path leading from the Dahler Bridge to Hedtfeld, respectively. 100 Lachter from the SE corner of the Richter house in h Ost 6 12/16 is the location of the Kuhlenhagen mine. An iron-manganese seam was found eight inches thick, striking 5 4/8 and dipping south at 12 degrees. A 1 1/2 laugh deep shear had been performed. The analysis showed 26.9 percent iron and 5.9 percent manganese and 10.9 percent iron and 1.6 percent manganese. The field was awarded to the merchant Theodor Göbel zu Breckerfeld . "

The municipality and estate district statistics of the province of Westphalia in 1871 listed the place as Kotten with one house and six residents. The municipality lexicon for the province of Westphalia in 1885 gives a number of five residents who lived in a residential building. In 1895 the place has a house with seven inhabitants, in 1905 one house and four inhabitants are given.

In the middle of the 20th century the sports field was laid out at the place.

In 1969, the municipalities of Hülscheid and Schalksmühle were merged to form an unofficial municipality ( unitary municipality ) of Schalksmühle in the Altena district and Kuhlenhagen has since been politically part of Schalksmühle, which in 1975 became part of the newly created Märkisches Kreis due to the Sauerland / Paderborn law .

Until the end of 2012 there was a gastronomic business called Steinbeisser in Kuhlenhagen . The building, which had already been used as an inn in the first half of the 20th century, was subsequently occupied by a prostitution company, which also ceased operations at the site on March 31, 2014.
