Ilya Isjaslavowitsch Awerbuch ( Russian Илья Изяславович Авербух ; born December 18, 1973 in Moscow ) is a former Russian ice dancer.
In 1979 Awerbuch started figure skating. First he started with the later Olympic champion Marina Anissina , with whom he became junior world champion in 1990 and 1992 . During this time he fell in love with the ice dancer Irina Lobatschowa , who at that time was still starting with Alexei Pospelow .
In 1992, Lobatschowa / Awerbuch separated from their previous ice dance partners and ran together from then on. Lobacheva and Awerbuch married on March 10, 1995, their son Martin was born in 2004. The couple divorced in early November 2007.
Her greatest successes were winning the silver medal at the 2002 Olympics and winning the World Cup in the same year. They trained with Natalja Linitschuk and Gennady Karponosov . Awerbuch started for Dynamo Moscow .
Awerbuch has been working as a TV journalist since the end of his ice dancing career and is, among other things, an ice skating commentator. Awerbuch is also the owner of the Ice Symphony ice skating show .
