Career

Club

István Nagy, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania , began his career at what is now HSC Csíkszereda . With the traditional club of the Szekler, which at that time was still called SC Miercurea Ciuc, he won the Romanian championship in 2000 and 2004 . In 2001 and 2003 he also won the Romanian cup competition with his club. The Pannonian League he won with his club 2004. 2005 he tried his hand at the Knoxville Ice Bears in the Southern Professional Hockey League , was there but only six appearances so that it already during the current season to Europe returned and the Újpesti TE the Play time came to an end. The following year he spent again at his home club, with whom he was able to win the double of championship and cup victory. From 2007 to 2009 he played for local competitor HC Csíkszereda , with whom he won the first edition of the newly founded MOL league in 2009 . Since the club had to stop playing for financial reasons in 2009 despite the sporting success, Nagy moved to Hungary for the second time to the Újpesti TE, but only stayed there for one season and in 2010 moved again to his home club, which had just been renamed HSC Csíkszereda, back. In 2011, 2012 and 2013 he was again Romanian national champion. In 2011 and 2014 he won the cup with the club and in 2011 he achieved his second victory in the MOL league (for HSC Csíkszereda it was the first success in this league). Towards the end of the main round of the 2014/15 season he left his hometown and hired at CSM Dunărea Galați , with whom he became Romanian national champion in the same year. Although he was able to defend the title in 2016 with the club from the far east of Romania, he then moved to the ASC Corona 2010 Brașov in the MOL league, but also plays in the Romanian league and was Romanian champion in 2017 with his new club.

International

In contrast to other Szeklers who compete for Hungary , Nagy plays internationally for his native Romania . He was already active internationally in the junior sector: he made his debut at the U18-C European Championship in 1998 . In the following year he played in the U18 World Championship in the European Division I. In the U20 area he played in the D World Championships in 1999 and 2000 and, after the change to the current division system, in 2001 in Division III.

Nagy made his debut in the men's national team at the 2002 Division I World Cup . Also in 2003 , 2004 , 2007 , 2012 , 2013 and 2016 he played in the Division I. After intermediate descents he was in 2006 , 2008 , 2010 , 2011 , when he was the top scorer among defenders of the tournament and behind compatriot Szabolcs Papp also second-best plus / minus balance, and 2017 in Division II on the ice. He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournaments for the Winter Olympics in Turin in 2006 , in Vancouver in 2010 and in Pyeongchang in 2018 .
