Jürgen Johannesdotter

Jürgen Johannesdotter (born October 6, 1943 in Bramsche ) is a German Evangelical - Lutheran theologian and was regional bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Schaumburg-Lippe , based in Bückeburg , from 2001 to 2009 .

Johannesdotter is married and has five sons with his wife.

Life

Johannesdotter was pastor of a parish in Bingum ( East Friesland ) from 1972 to 1982 following his sociology and theology studies in Göttingen and Marburg . The decades of the IG Metall belonging priest was later director of studies at the monastery Loccum , the oldest Protestant seminary in Germany . From 1992 until his election as regional bishop in 2001, Johannesdotter was the regional superintendent of the Stade district . This covers the entire Elbe-Weser area and with over 600,000 believers is the largest of the Hanoverian regional church . Before Johannesdotter became Bishop of Schaumburg-Lippe, in 1999 he applied unsuccessfully for the office of regional bishop of the Hanover regional church . In the vote he was narrowly defeated by Margot Käßmann .

At the level of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), Jürgen Johannesdotter chaired the Meißen Commission , which looks after relations with the Church of England .

On June 23, 2009, the synod of the regional church elected the Aurich superintendent Karl-Hinrich Manzke , whose father Karl Manzke had been Johannesdotter's predecessor as regional superintendent of the Stade district, to succeed Jürgen Johannesdotter, who retired as regional bishop in October 2009.

Johannesdotter remained the representative of the EKD Council for contact with the communities , a task that he already held as regional bishop.

Johannesdotter has been living with his wife Johanna on Norderney for a long time , where he occasionally holds services as a substitute.
