Jai Ethan Waetford (born January 25, 1999 in Campbelltown , Australia ) is an Australian pop singer who became known for his third place in the fifth season of the Australian The X Factor .

Life

Jai Waetford was born in Campbelltown, New South Wales , Australia in 1999 . He was raised by his mother, Alana Dow, and grandparents, Hannah and Roger Dow, as his father abandoned him and his mother at a young age. He taught himself to play the guitar through YouTube videos . Waetford attended Campbelltown Performing Arts High School, which he left in 2014 after completing his 10th year.

Career

2013: The X Factor

In 2013 Waetford applied for the fifth season of the Australian talent show The X Factor with the song Different Worlds by Jes Hudak and the self-written song Don't Let Me Go . On the first day of the Superbootcamp he performed with the song Titanium by David Guetta and went on to the second round of the Superbootcamp, in which he sang Last Request by Paolo Nutini . On the last day of the Superbootcamp, Waetford performed in front of the judges and a live audience with Taylor Swift's song We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together . He made it into the jury house and got into the boys under 24 category , for which Ronan Keating was responsible as a mentor. During home visits he sang the version of Elvis Presley of the song Always On My Mind and made it to the live shows. Waetford eventually reached the grand finale, where he placed behind Taylor Henderson and winner Dami Im .

2013–2015: Jai Waetford EP and Get to Know You

After participating in The X Factor , Waetford signed a recording deal with Sony Music Entertainment Australia. His debut single Your Eyes , which would have been his winning single on The X Factor , was released that same day. The song landed at number six on the ARIA single charts .

On November 23, 2013, Waetford toured with Third Degree, Taylor Henderson, Dami Im and Jiordan Tolli for The X Factor Live Tour , which ended on December 2, 2013.

On December 6, 2013, his self-titled debut EP was released, which reached 21st place in the ARIA album charts. Waetford's second EP Get to Know You was released on March 28, 2014. The EP's title track was released as a single and reached number 32 on the ARIA Singles Chart. Waetford served as the opening act for the #HypeTour of Australian pop music group Justice Crew in April 2014 in Australia. Waetford's third EP Shy , which was released on January 16, 2015, consists of four covers and the single of the same name.

Since 2016: Heart Miles EP

Jai Waetford has played the role of Angus in the Australian soap opera Neighbors since May 2, 2016 .

Waetford's fourth EP Heart Miles was released on June 3rd, 2016, consists of eight new songs, including Living Not Dreaming , which was released on February 4th, 2016. On May 13, 2016, Jai Waetford performed as a supporting act for British pop band Little Mix on their The Get Weird tour . The promotional tour for Heart Miles started on May 19, 2016 with performances in 12 countries in Europe and Asia.
