Career

youth

Jayson Megna was born in Fort Lauderdale in 1990. At the time, his father, Jay Megna, was a professional American football player with the Miami Dolphins ; his mother Jacqueline was an All-American - water polo player . At the age of three, Jayson's family moved to Northbrook , Illinois ; at the age of seven he started playing ice hockey.

Since the 2009/10 season Megna played in the highest junior league in the United States, the United States Hockey League , with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders from Iowa . There the striker scored 84 points in 116 missions in two seasons and led the team into the final of the Eastern Conference as captain in the second season . At the end of the season Megna was elected to the All-USHL First Team . In the summer of 2011, at the age of 21, he moved to the University of Nebraska Omaha and from then on played, together with his brother, for the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks , the university's ice hockey team. In the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a Division I Conference of the NCAA , Megna was on the ice in all 38 games of his team, scored 31 points and was elected to the WCHA All-Rookie Team after the season . For Megna, it remained a season of college sport , as he signed a two-year entry level contract with NHL representative Pittsburgh Penguins in August 2012 . He did not go through a draft .

Pittsburgh Penguins

Megna spent his first professional season in the AHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins farm team , the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins . There he regularly received ice age and advanced with the team in the play-offs up to the conference final , where the Syracuse Crunch failed. At the beginning of the 2013/14 season he was first called into the NHL squad and made his NHL debut on October 25 in the game against the New York Islanders . A few days later he succeeded against the Carolina Hurricanes his first goal in the highest ice hockey league, at this time his nickname "Megnatron" (based on Megatron , one of the main characters of the Transformers ). The rest of the regular season he spent in approximately equal shares in the NHL (36 games) and AHL (25 games), with the Pittsburgh Penguins making the leap into the play-offs.

New York, Vancouver, Washington and Colorado

After his contract was not renewed after the 2014/15 season, Megna joined the New York Rangers in July 2015 . They sent him to the AHL for the Hartford Wolf Pack as part of the preparation for the 2015/16 season . After a year, Megna's expiring contract was not renewed, so he signed a one-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks . In July 2018 he signed a one-year contract with Washington Capitals and switched to the Colorado Avalanche in the same way the following year .
